Product Description:
The 21.F5.A3R-954A is a three-phase axis inverter built by KEB for the F5 Combivert Axis Drives series. This unit is used in industrial automation to vary the frequency and voltage delivered to induction or synchronous machines, allowing accurate speed, torque, and position regulation without mechanical gear changes. By combining motor power electronics with onboard control I/O, the drive forms the active interface between a plant’s motion controller and a 400 V motor, helping coordinate conveyors, extruders, and gantry axes.
The drive operates from a three-phase 400 V AC supply and delivers up to 45 kW of continuous mechanical power. Continuous output current is 90 A, while momentary load spikes can draw up to 135 A before the control limits intervene. The IGBT bridge operates at a rated carrier frequency of 4 kHz, which can be increased to 16 kHz for applications requiring less audible motor noise. Size code 21 indicates the corresponding heat sink and bus capacitance. The R form-factor housing supports installation within an electrical panel. An integrated braking transistor manages energy returned during deceleration, while the built-in EMI filter reduces conducted radio-frequency interference.
Signal processing is handled by the standard board. Analog command inputs are digitized with 12-bit resolution, and the digital input pool is refreshed every 1 ms to capture fast PLC events. Two encoder interfaces are available: channel 1 accepts a TTL incremental signal through a D-Sub 15 socket, while channel 2 reads an SSI word through a D-Sub 9 socket. The encoder receiver supports signal frequencies up to 300 kHz, and an integrated 5.2 V, 500 mA supply powers the connected sensing head. Protective logic trips the inverter at 180% of rated current, helping prevent semiconductor damage during overloads and electrical faults.
