The 20.F5.MBR-YU14 axis drive is manufactured by KEB within the F5 Combivert Axis Drives series. It is a field-oriented, closed-loop controller for induction motors that converts fixed mains power into a variable three-phase output for conveyor sections, process pumps, and positioning axes in automated machinery. By managing torque directly through vector calculations, the drive maintains consistent speed accuracy across the full load range while reducing energy drawn from the plant supply. Closed-loop operation also allows the controller to respond to changing mechanical loads without sacrificing stable motor performance.
The converter accepts a three-phase input ranging from 305 to 528 V AC, which accommodates a rated 400 V network. At this voltage, the converter draws a nominal current of 83 A, while a separate DC bus ranging from 420 to 746 V can supply the link in shared-bus systems. The IGBT bridge operates at a rated switching frequency of 8 kHz and provides 75 A of fundamental current. Its output capacity reaches 52 kVA for motors rated up to 50 HP. The modulation range extends from 0 to 599 Hz, allowing machines to operate below base speed for high torque or above synchronous speed for increased throughput. Output voltage is synthesized across all three phases from 0 V to the incoming line voltage, and synchronization with a 50 or 60 Hz supply is maintained within ±2%.
Transient loads are supported by a short-term current capacity of 112 A. If the current reaches 135 A, the overcurrent monitor trips and works with the external 100 A gG main fuse to protect the semiconductor stack. For applications that require lower torque ripple, the carrier frequency can be increased to 16 kHz, provided the integral heat sink remains below 90 °C. Housing form factor R and inverter size 20 establish the enclosure depth and cooling airflow paths. The drive supports closed-loop vector control from standstill, allowing torque regulation before the motor reaches operating speed. Its shared DC-bus connection allows compatible drive units to operate from a common link when the system layout requires coordinated power distribution.
