Internal Product Review
The 18.F5.M1G-34DA is a KEB F5 Combivert axis drive designed for closed-loop field-oriented control of induction motors and 3-phase 400 V AC/DC input systems. Rated output of 22 kW and 50 A rated current give the drive strong load-handling performance for demanding motion applications. An integrated braking transistor and 1 ms I/O scan time make the platform a very capable choice for responsive axis control.

Product Description:
The 18.F5.M1G-34DA closed-loop, field-oriented induction motor drive is built by KEB within the F5 Combivert Axis Drives series. Intended for single-axis automation, it converts three-phase 400 V AC/DC input power into a regulated output that maintains torque and speed setpoints under varying loads. The inverter carries size code 18, housing form factor G, and configuration D, placing it in the medium-power segment of the platform. An internal braking transistor directs regenerated energy to a braking resistor during deceleration, helping protect the DC link from excessive voltage.
For machine control, the drive supplies one analog input and one analog output for speed or torque references, while 5 digital inputs accept start, stop, and jog commands using PNP logic. Status signals are returned through 2 digital outputs, and a form-C relay provides an isolated fault contact. Two encoder channels with an incremental input/output interface support differential or single-ended feedback. Cyclic processing occurs with a 1 ms I/O scan time, keeping latency low for coordinated axes and responsive machine sequences. Parameter access is available through the LCD operator, which is equipped with serial and CAN communication links. Pulse-width modulation operates at a 2 kHz nominal switching frequency by default.
The unit delivers 22 kW of rated power to induction motors with an output of up to 30 HP at either 400 V or 480 V. Continuous output is limited to a 50 A rated current, while overload events can draw a 75 A peak current during short acceleration intervals. The carrier can be increased to an 8 kHz maximum switching frequency when lower audible motor noise is required. Closed-loop vector regulation uses encoder feedback to correct speed deviations as the mechanical load changes. The regulator also maintains controlled torque production at low speeds, where open-loop control may provide less consistent performance. Analog references, digital commands, relay signaling, and encoder connections allow the drive to exchange operating data with external machine controls.
