The 16.F5.HBG-Z00G is an inverter drive module manufactured by KEB for the F5 Combivert Axis Drives series. Installed in control cabinets, the device converts fixed mains power into variable frequency and voltage so that three-phase motors can follow commanded speed or torque. In automated conveyors, winders, and positioning axes, the drive acts as the electrical interface between the PLC and the mechanical load. Because the module is intended for centralized installation, motor control stays in the cabinet while the connected machine axis receives regulated power at the output terminals.
The drive uses a three-phase supply connected to the 400 V class DC link. Its inverter section is sized for motors up to 20 HP and draws a rated 43 A from the line while delivering 33 A to the motor terminals. The ASCL control method provides sensorless vector regulation, so rotor position is estimated from current and voltage behavior instead of an encoder signal. This approach supports speed control without a separate feedback cable in applications that do not require direct encoder input. During rapid deceleration, the built-in braking transistor can conduct up to 30 A, routing excess energy to an external resistor and helping prevent DC-bus overvoltage. The G housing uses a flat rear cooling plate that mounts directly to a cabinet wall, which helps keep internal airflow simple and reduces panel depth.
The heat sink may rise to 90 °C before derating begins, and this limit is supported by the rear-mounted cooler and cabinet fans. Safe braking requires an external resistor of at least 25 Ω; a higher resistance value reduces peak temperature but also lengthens stopping time. Upstream protection uses a maximum mains fuse of 50 A to match the semiconductor ratings and conductor size. At full modulation, the inverter can supply 23 kVA of apparent power, giving the drive enough voltage headroom for dynamic vector control while staying within its current and thermal limits. These operating limits are especially relevant on high-inertia loads that return energy to the drive during stopping.
