The 16.F5.CBG-360A is an axis inverter produced by KEB within the F5 Combivert Axis Drives series. The unit regulates power from the DC link to control asynchronous or synchronous motors in packaging lines, material-handling systems, and other automated machinery. By integrating motor control, I/O processing, and fault protection in a single housing, the drive functions as the primary speed and torque regulator for one motion axis in an industrial plant.
Electrical integration centers on a rated input of three-phase 400 V AC or 400 V DC. The power stage switches at a carrier frequency of 8 kHz to generate a smooth sinusoidal output for motors rated up to 20 HP at 230 V or 400 V. Two 12-bit analog inputs and two analog outputs accommodate speed or torque references, while eight digital inputs, two digital transistor outputs, and two relay outputs interact with PLC sequences. The total transistor load is limited to 50 mA, and the I/O layer is scanned every 2 ms. A total of 29 control terminals simplifies cabinet wiring, and the lack of an encoder interface makes the drive suitable for sensorless applications.
Overcurrent trips occur at 180% of the nominal RMS current, while the short-term overload capacity reaches 150% for brief acceleration demands. Internal logic and gate drivers operate from a 24 V DC supply that the drive produces from the main bus, helping maintain control during line dips. The housing uses form-factor code G with inverter size code 16, providing consistent mounting dimensions across the platform. Two form-C relays share a contact rating of 30 V DC/1 A, allowing direct switching of brakes or contactors without external interposing relays. Because no feedback card is installed, speed estimation relies on the built-in current and voltage observers rather than encoder pulses.
