Product Description:
The 16.F5.C3E-340A is a pulse-width-modulated axis drive produced by KEB as part of the F5 Combivert Axis Drives series. Intended for cabinet installation, the inverter powers induction or synchronous motors with variable frequency and voltage, enabling speed and torque regulation on conveyors, extruders, and positioning modules in automated lines. With its frame size code “E,” the unit supports applications that demand up to 20 horsepower from the mains supply while maintaining electromagnetic compatibility through an integrated filter.
The drive connects to a three-phase mains network at 400 V, and the balanced 3-phase input minimizes harmonic distortion on the utility bus. The drive provides a continuous output current of 33 A, which affects heat sink requirements and the required cable cross-sectional area. During acceleration or transient overloads, the current may rise to 59 A, a margin supported by the DC link and built-in braking transistor. The rectifier tolerates overvoltage conditions up to 528 V, helping prevent shutdown when the supply rises above its nominal level. Combined with the EMI filter, these ratings allow the inverter to meet CE limits for conducted emissions without external filter components.
Low-line events are managed down to 305 V, giving the controller time to react before motor torque is lost. The carrier frequency is user-selectable, with a factory setting of 2 kHz that balances switching losses and motor noise. A high-frequency option of 16 kHz reduces audible noise but increases the thermal load on the drive. The open housing has an IP20 ingress protection rating, so the unit must be installed in a protected enclosure while retaining access to convection airflow. Operating temperatures can range from -10 °C to 45 °C, and storage is permitted between -25 °C and 70 °C. These temperature ranges accommodate common conditions in industrial cabinets, storage areas, and production facilities without requiring a sealed drive housing.
