The 15.F5.MBE-YUZY is an AC axis drive built by KEB as part of the F5 Combivert Axis Drives series. Supplied in the E housing form factor with size code 15, the unit controls induction or synchronous motors up to 15 HP and accepts a three-phase power feed. Within multi-axis machinery, the drive modulates DC-bus energy so a connected motor follows velocity or torque commands without external contactors. This arrangement is useful in cabinet-installed motion systems where the drive must regulate motor response from a compact inverter section.
The inverter operates from a nominal line of 400 VAC and draws a rated current of 31 A. Its output bridge supplies 24 A, giving an apparent power of 17 kVA at the motor terminals. IGBT devices commutate at a standard frequency of 4 kHz, while an overcurrent trip is set at 43.2 A to protect the power stage during faults. When fed from 230 V in the B configuration, the maximum motor power remains 15 HP. A minimum braking resistor of 36 Ω must be fitted so regenerated energy is dissipated safely, and shielded motor leads up to 330 ft can be routed without exceeding the drive's EMC limits. Motor and line lugs are tightened to 11 in-lb so thermal cycling does not loosen conductors.
During short acceleration intervals, the current may rise to 36 A for 30 s, and the integral chopper can sink a braking current of 21 A provided the external resistor meets the required impedance. For applications that demand lower audible noise or higher control bandwidth, the switching frequency can be increased to 16 kHz. The enclosure carries an IP20 rating, so the drive must be mounted inside a cabinet where dust and moisture are controlled. This cabinet-mounted arrangement is appropriate for conveyors, winders, and coordinated servo axes that use external braking hardware.
