Product Description:
The 15.F5.C3E-Y40A is an AC axis drive produced by KEB for the F5 Combivert Axis Drives series. It regulates three-phase induction or synchronous motors up to 15 HP in automated machinery such as conveyors, extruders, and positioning tables. By modulating the DC link through insulated-gate bipolar transistors, the unit supplies variable voltage and frequency to the motor and removes excess heat through a finned aluminum heat sink on the rear panel. This arrangement supports smooth speed changes during acceleration, deceleration, and steady operation.
This drive is housed in an IP20 enclosure and relies on heat sink cooling without forced airflow. At 480 V input, it delivers a continuous output of 21 A, corresponding to 17 kVA of apparent power while drawing 27.3 A from the supply. The carrier is factory set to 2 kHz, which balances switching losses with motor acoustic noise, and internal losses reach 350 W under rated load. A braking transistor and EMI filter are installed, so no external dynamic braking interface or separate line-side suppression is required. Because no encoder interface is provided, the unit operates in open-loop V/Hz or sensorless vector modes. The housing uses form factor E, and the inverter size code is 15.
For transient events, the inverter supplies up to 36 A for 30 seconds, and an overcurrent shutdown activates at 43.2 A to protect the output stage. This protection helps the drive withstand sudden load changes without overstressing the power section. When higher pulse resolution is needed, the carrier can be raised as high as 16 kHz; however, the heat sink temperature must stay below 90 °C. Shielded motor leads can be routed up to 300 ft without exceeding EMC limits. This makes the unit suitable for installations where the motor is mounted farther from the control cabinet.
