Internal Product Review

The 14.F5.A1D-38EA is a KEB F5 Combivert axis drive with a standard control board and EMC class C1. A 3-phase 400 V AC/DC supply and 16.5 A rated current support stable performance in demanding motion applications. An integrated braking transistor and 16 kHz maximum carrier frequency make the drive a strong choice for responsive axis control.

Product Description:

The 14.F5.A1D-38EA is an AC axis drive produced by KEB within the F5 Combivert Axis Drives series. It fits inside a compact Housing D frame with a varnished coating that protects internal components from moisture and airborne contaminants. A standard cooling channel draws air across the heat sink fins, while the internal standard board manages the regulation loops for torque, speed, and position. A factory-installed GTR 7 braking transistor routes regenerated energy to a connected external braking resistor without requiring an additional braking module.

The power stage uses size code 14 and delivers a rated output current of 16.5 A. It can tolerate transient current demands up to a peak of 29.7 A. When connected to a three-phase 400 V AC/DC supply, the drive can operate motors rated up to 10 HP. The Unit B configuration also supports operation on a 230 V system. Overcurrent protection provides enough margin for brief surges while disconnecting the output when current rises beyond the permitted threshold. The continuous and peak current limits help keep the power semiconductors within their permitted operating temperatures during normal use.

The control section provides a resolver with incremental output, supplying rotor position feedback and incremental pulses for accurate speed regulation. The IGBT power stage supports a maximum carrier frequency of 16 kHz, while the recommended continuous setting is 2 kHz to reduce switching losses and heat generation. If the phase current exceeds 216% of the rated value, the drive issues an overcurrent trip to protect the power stage. EMC Class C1 compliance supports installation in residential and light-industrial areas when the required installation practices are followed. Standard air cooling removes heat from the power stage, and the varnished boards provide added protection in typical control cabinet conditions.
