The 13.F5.MDD-Y0P0 is an AC axis drive produced by KEB for the F5 Combivert Axis Drives series. It functions as a frequency inverter that converts three-phase mains power into variable voltage and frequency for induction machines. Within an automation cell, the drive provides sensorless field-oriented vector control so conveyors, extruders, or positioning tables can maintain commanded speed and torque profiles. This control method estimates motor speed from electrical measurements rather than relying on a separate encoder signal.
The inverter accepts a three-phase supply of 400 V and draws 17 A under rated load, so a 25 A gG main fuse is recommended for circuit protection. At the output, it delivers 12 A continuously, corresponding to 8.3 kVA of apparent power, and can generate frequencies up to 400 Hz for high-speed motor operation. Transient demands are handled by a short-term current capability of 21.6 A, while an overcurrent trip activates at 25.9 A to protect the IGBT stage. The enclosure has an IP20 rating, so the unit must be installed inside a switch cabinet with suitable airflow. Size code 13 indicates the applicable frame geometry and heat sink configuration. The minimum motor cable cross section is 4 mm², and shielded cable runs may extend to 100 m when the PWM carrier frequency is 16 kHz. The platform is supplied without a plug-in encoder card, leaving the corresponding slot available for compatible expansion hardware.
The integrated braking transistor and EMI filter package supports controlled dissipation of regenerative energy during motor deceleration. Regenerative peaks are limited by a braking current of 15 A, and safe thermal operation requires the heat sink temperature to remain below 90 °C. When an external braking resistor is selected, its resistance must not be lower than 56 Ω to keep the braking transistor within its permitted operating range. The drive supports motors rated up to 7.5 HP when used with a compatible supply and motor configuration. During deceleration, the braking circuit directs excess DC-bus energy to the external resistor, where it is converted into heat. Proper cabinet ventilation is necessary to remove heat from the drive and maintain dependable operation under sustained loading.
