Product Description:
The 12.F5.MBD-3ADA is an AC axis drive manufactured by KEB for the F5 Combivert Axis Drives series. Intended for induction motors up to 5 HP, it forms the controllable power stage between the mains supply and the machine shaft. The unit employs closed-loop field-oriented control to maintain torque accuracy across the speed range, and an integrated brake transistor diverts regenerated energy into an external resistor during rapid deceleration. An LCD operator panel with serial and CAN connectivity provides local parameter entry and peak-output monitoring.
Rated performance includes a continuous output of 6.6 kVA, delivered as 9.5 A at the motor terminals. The supply side draws 13 A from a three-phase 400 VAC/DC supply, and insulated-gate transistors switch at 8 kHz to minimize audible noise and current ripple. Motor speed is governed over an output frequency range of 0 to 400 Hz, enabling operation from zero-speed holding to high-speed conveying. A 20 A gG main fuse protects the input, while the drive can supply 17 A of short-term current for acceleration peaks before reaching its thermal limits. Size code 12 mechanics house the power electronics, and the field-oriented control algorithm eliminates the need for an encoder on standard induction motors.
Dynamic stopping capability is provided by an internal chopper that passes 10 A into a braking resistor with a minimum resistance of 82 Ω, preventing DC-bus overvoltage. The D configuration sets an instantaneous overcurrent trip at 21 A to protect the insulated-gate bipolar transistors. The enclosure has an IP20 rating, so the drive must be installed inside a control cabinet while remaining protected against accidental contact. Overall dimensions of 90 × 250 × 180.5 mm facilitate close rack spacing in multi-axis assemblies. The serial and CAN interface forwards operating status data to higher-level controllers.
