Product Description:
The 12.F5.M1D-3AMA is an axis drive manufactured by KEB for the F5 Combivert Axis Drives series. It is designed to run induction motors in industrial automation lines using closed-loop, field-oriented control so that speed and torque follow precise commands from a PLC or motion controller. By combining motor power electronics, feedback handling, and protective circuitry in a single chassis unit, the drive streamlines cabinet layouts for conveyor sections, material-forming stations, and coordinated multi-axis machines.
Electrically, the unit accepts either a three-phase 400 V AC supply or a 400 V DC source and delivers up to 5 HP of continuous motor output. Current is modulated through insulated-gate devices that switch at 8 kHz, allowing fine pulse-width resolution and quiet motor operation. For transient events, it can supply 180% of rated current, and protection trips at 216% of rated current if a short circuit or stalled rotor persists. A factory-installed braking transistor diverts regenerated energy to an external resistor during rapid deceleration, maintaining DC-bus stability. Control algorithms reference motor position through encoder inputs, while inverter size code 12 indicates the power section selected for medium-frame machinery.
The chassis carries an IP20 rating and mounts inside a ventilated enclosure. Its overall depth is 181 mm, its height is 250 mm, and its width is 90 mm, permitting dense stacking on standard back panels. Encoder channel A uses a 15-pin D-Sub connector for SIN/COS signals, while channel B uses a 9-pin D-Sub connector that accepts TTL output, enabling synchronized feedback from dual transducers. A built-in counter handles input edges up to 500 Hz, supporting position latching or speed verification tasks. The chassis mounting arrangement provides access to the power, control, and feedback connections while preserving the required airflow around the drive. Its narrow width also helps accommodate neighboring control components without increasing the enclosure footprint.
