KEB manufactures the 12.F5.M1D-3ADA within its F5 Combivert Axis Drives series. This drive module is intended to sit inside a control cabinet and provide vector-controlled output for induction or synchronous motors in automated production cells. By rectifying and modulating the incoming supply, the device enables precise speed and torque regulation, simplifying multi-axis coordination and reducing mechanical stress on connected machinery.
The power stage accepts a 3-phase 400 V AC/DC supply and regulates motor current up to 9.5 A during continuous duty. A built-in overcurrent trip activates at 22.8 A, protecting both the inverter and the load against phase faults or sudden jams. The IGBTs switch at 4 kHz, a compromise that limits acoustic noise while keeping conduction losses moderate. The housing carries an IP20 rating, so it must be mounted in a clean, ventilated enclosure. One analog input, one analog output, and five digital inputs allow basic process variables and start-stop commands to reach the control board, while a braking transistor dissipates regenerated energy during rapid deceleration. Rotor position is captured through D-Sub connectors that accommodate incremental encoders on either the 15-pin or 9-pin interface, and an LCD operator panel with Serial/CAN links supports parameter entry and peak-value display.
For short loading peaks, the inverter can deliver 19 A, giving headroom when the connected motor demands brief acceleration up to the rated 5 HP mechanical output. The mechanical package is 181 mm deep, 250 mm high, and 90 mm wide, allowing dense stacking on DIN-rail backplanes. Size code 12 and hardware code D identify the heat sink profile and terminal layout used across the series. An incremental In/Out path forwards encoder signals to higher-level motion controllers so axis synchronization can be maintained without adding external splitters.
