The 12.F5.C1D-VA10 is a DC-supplied inverter module produced by KEB within the F5 Combivert Axis Drives series. Intended for multi-axis automation, the unit converts a stabilized 400 V DC bus into variable-voltage and variable-frequency outputs so a controller can adjust the speed of induction or synchronous motors during conveying, packaging, or forming processes. It integrates local I/O and current supervision to link motion commands from a PLC to the power stage of a connected machine.
The drive accepts a 400 V DC supply from a common bus, and its inverter section has size code 12 and uses semiconductors and capacitors sized for motors up to 5 HP. Pulse-width modulation is produced at 8 kHz, a carrier frequency that limits audible noise while maintaining efficient switching. Two differential analog inputs are sampled with 12-bit resolution, and a pair of analog outputs returns process data to supervisory controls. Current overloads during acceleration are tolerated because the phase current may rise to 180% of nominal current for a short interval. Surplus energy is discharged through the factory-installed braking transistor. The module uses the series’ standard air-cooled heat sink, avoiding additional fans or external liquid loops.
An internal control rail of 24 V DC powers the electronics and two relay outputs that drive external contactors or brakes. Eight configurable digital inputs accept PNP/NPN levels and are scanned every 2 ms, enabling deterministic machine interlocks, while two digital transistor outputs transmit status signals. Hardware protection forces a trip when current reaches 216%, isolating the inverter from the DC link during severe faults. This model is supplied without an encoder feedback card, so open-loop regulation is used where feedback is not required. The common DC-bus connection allows the module to receive power from a centralized supply while independently controlling its connected motor axis.
