The 12.F5.ABD-YA5M axis drive is manufactured by KEB for the F5 Combivert Axis Drives series. Designed as an application-class inverter, it accepts either AC or DC input power and modulates output frequency and voltage to operate three-phase motors used in automated conveyors, gantries, and processing stations. The unit uses the series’ D-size housing and corresponds to inverter size code 12 with the A1 topology, allowing it to control mechanical loads of up to 5 HP from a compact cabinet slot.
The drive delivers a continuous output of 6.6 kVA at a rated phase current of 9.5 A, while the standard control board manages its application functions. Pulse generation occurs at a carrier frequency of 8 kHz, providing smooth motor torque without imposing excessive switching losses on the IGBTs. A heat sink temperature limit of 90 °C is enforced by the internal thermal model to protect the power stage from overheating. Closed-loop speed feedback is accepted through a Sin/Cos encoder interface, supporting accurate motor regulation under changing loads. Auxiliary status and fault signals leave the unit as TTL-level pulses for connection to compatible control equipment.
Short-duration demands are supported at switching frequencies up to 16 kHz, giving the drive additional flexibility for applications that require smoother motor operation. Main circuit protection uses a 20 A gG fuse in accordance with the 21 A overcurrent trip threshold. The rectifier and inverter section can momentarily supply 17 A of short-time current to accelerate inertial loads before thermal limits intervene. Dynamic braking energy is routed through an integrated transistor that works with an external resistor rated at no less than 82 Ω. The accessory pack includes a safety relay that removes the drive-enable signal during an emergency stop. Overall input current is limited to 13 A, allowing the feeder conductors to remain within common industrial cable ratings.
