The 12.F5.A1D-1A-A is an axis inverter produced by KEB for the F5 Combivert Axis Drives series. In a production line, it functions as the interface between the fixed utility mains and a three-phase motor. It supplies the variable voltage and frequency required for precise speed and torque control during automated positioning, conveying, or process tasks.
The drive is housed in an IP20 enclosure and accepts a three-phase 230 V AC/DC input. A factory-mounted GTR7 braking transistor allows regenerated energy to be dissipated internally, and the standard control board provides two analog inputs and two analog outputs for proportional command or feedback signals. Eight digital inputs are present, and each channel supports PNP or NPN logic so the module can accommodate sourcing or sinking field wiring. A dedicated counter input processes encoder or sensor pulses up to 500 Hz, while the programmable I/O scan time of 1 ms lets the controller react quickly to status changes. External electronics are powered by a 24 V DC supply that keeps the control section active during mains interruptions. Power devices switch at a carrier frequency of 8 kHz, reducing motor noise and improving current resolution. These control connections allow the inverter to receive commands, monitor operating conditions, and exchange status signals with connected automation equipment.
The F5 size-12 frame supplies a rated output current of 16.5 A and can deliver short-term current up to a thermal limit factor of 180%. During severe transients, the drive trips when the phase current reaches 216% of the rated current, helping prevent damage to the power devices. The maximum instantaneous current is 29.7 A, enabling the drive to start inertial loads without stalling. This current capacity allows the inverter to operate motors rated up to 5 HP, including motors used with small pumps, fans, or indexing axes. The installed braking transistor dissipates regenerated energy during deceleration instead of allowing it to accumulate on the DC bus.
