KEB manufactures the 09.F5.09B-0009 as part of its F5 Combivert Axis Drives series. The unit is a shunt resistor assembly that connects to the DC link of an inverter axis and safely dissipates regenerative energy during braking cycles. By turning the excess electrical energy into heat, the assembly prevents over-voltage events, allowing servo axes in packaging machines, handling robots, or conveyors to decelerate rapidly and repeatedly without stressing the drive electronics.
Under continuous dissipation the element is rated for 35 W, a figure that defines the amount of heat it can release indefinitely without exceeding its temperature threshold. For short duty peaks the 5 % duty specification allows 700 W when the load is averaged over 120 s; this keeps thermal loading inside the ceramic body within design limits. Extremely fast decelerations can be handled at a 3.6 kW peak for up to 3 s, after which the resistor must cool. The element measures 160 Ω, so the DC-bus voltage dictates the braking current according to Ohm’s law. Power is fed through 2 × AWG 16 leads that are pre-terminated for connection inside the inverter cabinet.
Additional interface features complete the protection scheme. An auxiliary temperature switch with TTL logic changes state when the body reaches 160 °C; its normally closed configuration is wired to T1 and T2 so the drive can trip before damage occurs. Position feedback cables share the same duct because the unit accepts the UVW encoder signals that originate on the motor. Installation is simplified by the Sub-Mounted format that slides into compatible housing B and uses the PA/++ and PB resistor terminals provided on the bus bar. Thermal wiring is routed with 2 × AWG 20 conductors, while the switch contacts can interrupt up to 250 VAC / 0.5 A so service technicians can verify fault output without energizing the power stage.
