Within an automated cell, it replaces mechanical speed-change components, enabling precise positioning, rapid acceleration, and secure holding during process transitions while remaining compatible with standard cabinet cooling arrangements.
Beneath the cover, the drive executes sensorless closed-loop vector control, so rotor position is inferred from current and voltage rather than from an encoder. Power enters through a three-phase 400 V AC/DC bus and is switched at 16 kHz, a frequency that reduces audible noise and improves current ripple. The internal processor refreshes field-oriented calculations every 1 ms, allowing tight speed regulation during load transients. For dynamic events, the inverter can deliver 180% of its rated current for a short duration. A selectable output filter mode is supported when long motor cables require du/dt limitation. Cooling is standard, and the control board receives power from an external auxiliary supply.
Protective functions act quickly. An overcurrent trip level of 216% disconnects the output before semiconductor limits are exceeded, while the counter input accepts frequencies up to 500 Hz for tachometer or positioning pulses. A factory-installed braking transistor connects to an external resistor so regenerative energy can be dissipated without raising the DC-link voltage. The drive also performs calibration without rotation, establishing motor parameters even when the shaft is clamped. Because there is no encoder interface, the drive operates without encoder feedback. This arrangement simplifies cabling and eliminates sensitive feedback channels.
