Internal Product Review

The 05.F5.B1B-3900 is a KEB F5 Combivert axis drive built for efficient motion control, with 0.37 kW rated power and 3-phase 400 V AC/DC input supply. A 2 ms I/O scan time and 4 kHz switching frequency give the drive crisp response and stable regulation in light-duty automation service. An integrated GTR7 braking transistor adds practical stopping capability, making the drive an excellent fit for compact axis applications.

Product Description:

The 05.F5.B1B-3900 axis drive is manufactured by KEB for the F5 Combivert Axis Drives series. It governs the speed and torque of small three-phase motors, providing coordinated motion in material handling cells, pick-and-place gantries, and similar equipment. By converting fixed mains power into a variable-frequency output, the unit links electromechanical loads to digital control systems. Its role is to give the machine controller a predictable way to start, accelerate, decelerate, and stop a connected axis during repetitive cycles.

Rated mechanical output is 0.37 kW, while continuous line current remains at 1.3 A. The power stage accepts a three-phase 400 V AC/DC supply, and its IGBTs switch at 4 kHz so the output waveform remains suitable for standard motor insulation systems. Control intelligence scans fieldbus and terminal status every 2 ms, coordinating five digital inputs, one analog input, one analog output, and two form-C relay outputs rated for 30 VDC at 1 A. Seventeen screw terminals handle these signals, so wiring can be completed without mezzanine boards. Regenerated energy can be routed to an external resistor, which removes the need for a separate brake chopper card. No encoder feedback card is installed, so the drive is suited to open-loop vector or V/Hz regulation.

A higher thermal margin is available for short transients; the inverter permits 2.34 A for up to 60 seconds before returning to its nominal operating range, and an overcurrent trip activates at 2.8 A to protect the output devices. Logic and gate-drive circuits are powered by an internal 24 V DC supply that can also energize external sensors, eliminating a separate power pack. Dynamic deceleration is handled by the integrated brake transistor identified as GTR7, which works with the short-term current limit to absorb excess kinetic energy. Dedicated relay contacts also let the module report fault status to higher-level safety relays and provide run-permission feedback without additional I/O couplers.
