During regenerative deceleration, surplus kinetic energy is converted to heat, and this component provides the controlled dissipation path needed by Combivert frequency inverters and servo drives. A dedicated resistor module helps the drive prevent DC-link overvoltage and maintain stable braking torque during rapid stops or directional changes in automated machinery. It is commonly used where repeated braking events would otherwise force the inverter to trip on excess bus voltage.
Electrical loading begins with a resistance value of 22 Ω, which sets the initial current drawn from the drive's chopper transistor and influences the rate of thermal rise inside the housing. The resistor is intended for duty cycles capped at 6%, meaning it may conduct for 3.6 seconds in every minute before a cooling pause is required. Under that intermittent schedule, its nominal dissipation reaches 3600 W. For very short events lasting under two seconds, the element can absorb transients up to 26.3 kW, giving the inverter additional headroom during emergency stops. The core uses a Tubular alloy body that spreads heat evenly along its length for predictable surface temperatures. Because braking energy is released as heat, adequate clearance around the housing is needed for cooldown between braking events.
