Product Description:

The 17.BR.226-6303 is a braking resistor manufactured by KEB and supplied as part of the BR Braking Resistors series. Installed on the DC link of an inverter, the unit converts surplus electrical energy into heat whenever a motor decelerates, preventing overvoltage trips and keeping the drive system stable in industrial automation lines. The resistive element is rated at 30 Ω; this resistance controls the current flowing from the DC bus and therefore affects the instantaneous braking torque available to the motor.

During steady regeneration, the resistor can dissipate 1200 W continuously, yet it tolerates short bursts of up to 19 kW when braking demand peaks. That peak capability is limited to a duty window of 6 s, after which thermal mass and convection return the element toward its rated temperature. Thermal protection is handled by an embedded switch that opens at 240 °C. Because the device is wired as a normally closed contact, the drive receives a signal when the resistor exceeds that temperature, allowing it to reduce regeneration or shut down. The same switch may be routed through the control circuit that supervises the separate 250 VAC, 3 A or 30 VDC, 3 A interlock paths provided for overload indication.

The enclosure carries an IP20 rating, so it protects against accidental contact with live parts while allowing airflow through the fins. The overall length is 625 mm, the body depth is 119.5 mm, and the overall height is 270 mm. A single module is secured through a 526 mm mounting length with elongated slots measuring 6.5 × 10 mm, simplifying alignment on cabinet back panels. Power leads connect to screw terminals sized for 12 AWG / 4 mm² conductors. These terminals provide the electrical connection between the resistor and the braking chopper circuit while keeping the wiring firmly secured during operation.
