Internal Product Review
The 13.BR.100-6110 is a KEB BR braking resistor with 110 Ω resistance and a 350 W continuous rating. An NC contact thermoswitch with a 160 °C threshold adds valuable protection for controlled braking energy management. Strong short-term absorption at 5000 W for 6 s makes this unit an excellent choice for 400 V drive applications.

Product Description:
The 13.BR.100-6110 braking resistor is manufactured by KEB for the BR Braking Resistors series. Designed as a single resistor module, it is wired across the DC link of frequency inverters or servo drives to dissipate regenerative energy as heat. This arrangement lets the drive shed returned energy during deceleration instead of forcing it into sensitive internal components. By doing so, it protects the power electronics from voltage spikes and allows controlled, rapid braking of motors in material-handling, packaging, and general motion applications throughout industrial automation.
The device carries a continuous thermal load of 350 W, meaning it can convert this amount of electrical power to heat indefinitely without exceeding its design temperature. Its resistance of 110 Ω sets the steady-state current at the applied DC bus voltage and governs base heat production. Short braking events are absorbed at up to 5000 W for 6 s, a capability that covers emergency stops or heavy inertial loads. The voltage class suits drive systems operating on a 400 V DC link. An internal thermoswitch with an NC contact is wired in series with the control circuit so that power is disconnected if the body overheats.
The bimetal thermoswitch opens at 160 °C, giving the control system a temperature limit that comes before material degradation. For repeated duty cycles with moderate energy, the resistor tolerates 1500 W during 25 s intervals, which matches typical deceleration profiles on conveyor axes. Mechanical integration is simplified by a body height of 80 mm, a thickness of 28 mm, and an overall length of 400 mm, allowing vertical panel mounting alongside other drive components. The slim form factor also helps preserve space for neighboring drive hardware in tightly packed panels. The enclosure carries an IP60 rating, so dust cannot reach the windings while cooling air can still circulate through the open side channels.
