Product Description:

The 12.BR.601-5150 braking resistor is produced by KEB and is part of the BR Braking Resistors series. It connects to the DC link of a frequency inverter and converts regenerated energy from a slowing motor into heat, helping keep bus voltage below the drive’s shutdown threshold. This supports controlled deceleration and helps protect semiconductor components during fast-stop sequences in conveyor, hoist, and spindle applications. Its narrow profile also allows the unit to mount beside other control gear inside an IP-rated panel.

The resistor is designed for continuous dissipation of 35 W, which is the amount of heat it can release continuously without exceeding its temperature limits. During rapid stops, it can momentarily handle up to 5.5 kW of peak braking power, allowing short high-energy events to be absorbed safely. Because those peaks are brief, the cyclic duration factor is limited to 2 %, so high-power pulses are allowed for only a small part of each operating cycle to prevent overheating. The resistance value is 150 ohms, which influences the current flow at a given DC-bus voltage and affects the braking torque available from the motor. The housing has a protection rating of IP20, so it helps prevent accidental finger contact with live parts and is intended for installation inside a larger cabinet.

Electrical leads are supplied as AWG 14 / 2.5 mm² pigtails, providing suitable current-carrying capacity for the rated load and simplifying screw-terminal connection. The overall depth is 220 mm, and the width is 90 mm, while the 10 mm profile height helps the resistor fit behind shallow cabinet doors or between closely spaced components. Two mounting slots with a 10 mm hole diameter accept standard M10 or 3/8-inch hardware for secure fastening. The wire length is 0.25 m, and the assembly weighs just 0.4 kg, so the unit remains easy to place within compact control enclosures.
