The 175U1940 brake resistor operates within a wide ambient temperature range of – 40 °C to + 70 °C and can withstand transport and storage temperatures in the same range. It has a maximum housing temperature of 300 °C. For effective operation, the resistor is rated for a maximum relative humidity of 5 – 85 % that ensures non condensing conditions. The resistor’s power rating follows a derating curve where its continuous power is 100 % at 40°C and reduces to 70 % at 70 °C. The resistor’s cooling relies on free natural convection that means that proper installation with sufficient clearances is essential for efficient cooling. These power ratings are calculated based on the assumption of natural cooling without forced ventilation. For high altitude installations, the power derating changes as follows: 100 % at 1000 meters above sea level, 94 % at 1500 meters, and 82 % at 3000 meters. These adjustments help maintain performance at different altitudes where the air density is lower.
