Danfoss manufactures the 131F0291 AC variable frequency drive for the VLT FC 301 Automation Drives series. The device converts fixed-frequency plant power into a variable-frequency output, allowing a PLC to control motor speed directly through the drive without relying on dampers or mechanical gear changes. It is designed for installation inside machine cabinets on compact systems such as conveyors, pump skids, and small fan arrays. Accurate speed adjustment can improve process control and reduce energy consumption when the connected motor does not need to operate continuously at full speed.
The electrical section provides continuous shaft power of 0.55 kW, which is equivalent to 0.75 HP. The drive operates from an input range of 380–480 VAC and requires three-phase power, making it suitable for standard 400 V industrial mains. Heat generated during operation is managed through the normal cabinet mounting arrangement used for A, B, and C frames. Parameters and operating values are accessed through the front-mounted Numerical Local Control Panel, which provides a numeric display and local controls. The drive does not include an additional EMC filter, a dedicated mains disconnect, or a brake chopper, so braking energy cannot be dissipated through an internally controlled resistor.
Network communication is provided by a PROFIBUS DP V1 MCA 101 A-option card, allowing the drive to exchange commands, operating data, and diagnostic information with compatible automation controllers. The unit uses an IP20 chassis enclosure intended for protected installation inside an electrical cabinet, where it is shielded from direct contact and excessive contamination. A coated printed-circuit board finish helps protect the electronics against moisture and airborne contaminants that may enter the cabinet. The drive also uses standard cable entry glands for routing power, motor, and control wiring into the enclosure. If the application requires dynamic braking or additional electromagnetic interference suppression, suitable external components must be installed separately.
