The VLT 3052 is an AC inverter manufactured by Danfoss for the VLT 3000 Variable Speed Drives series. By modulating the output frequency and voltage, the unit allows PLCs or stand-alone controllers to match motor speed with process demand in pumps, fans, and material-handling equipment. Its role in industrial automation is to improve energy use, reduce mechanical wear, and provide adjustable torque across a wide operating range.
Under constant-torque duty, the drive delivers 130.0 A at 200/230 V, 73.0 A at 380/415 V, and 65.0 A at 440/500 V. These current limits indicate the maximum continuous load the connected motor can receive without thermal derating. The corresponding shaft capability reaches 37.0 kW, linking the electrical output to the mechanical power available at the motor shaft. Overall conversion efficiency is 0.96, so only 4% of the input energy is lost as heat inside the cabinet. A discharge wait time of 4 minutes is required before service work begins, allowing the DC-link capacitors to discharge to a safe level. The control logic restricts input starts to two per minute to protect the semiconductors from repetitive inrush current. Motor temperature monitoring follows the DIN 44081 thermistor standard, giving the drive the data needed to trip before the winding insulation is overstressed.
Variable-torque applications permit a higher phase current of 154.0 A at 200/230 V, 88.0 A at 380/415 V, and 78.0 A at 440/500 V, enabling centrifugal loads to accelerate quickly. In this mode, the inverter can deliver up to 45.0 kW to the motor shaft. Motor leads may extend to 300 m without exceeding the drive-side voltage-drop guidelines, allowing the motor to be installed farther from the drive. The IP20 version weighs 54.0 kg, while the IP54 enclosure weighs 69.0 kg when greater protection from dust and water is required. Compliance with a vibration test level of 0.7 g supports installation on machinery exposed to moderate dynamic loading.
