The VLT 3032 is an AC motor controller produced by Danfoss for the VLT 3000 Variable Speed Drives series. Acting as a variable-frequency inverter, it modulates the voltage and frequency supplied to an induction motor so shaft speed can be matched to process demand. This control can reduce energy consumption and minimize mechanical wear in fans, pumps, and conveyors. The controller is suitable for industrial systems that require adjustable motor speed under changing operating conditions.
Under full load, the drive reaches an efficiency of 0.96, so only four percent of the incoming electrical power is lost as heat within the converter. Its output stage provides a continuous motor output of 22.0 kW, making the product suitable for midrange motors used in HVAC and material-handling equipment. The inverter can synthesize output waveforms at frequencies of 50, 60, 87, or 100 Hz, supporting constant-torque operation as well as applications that require an extended frequency range. Motor cables up to 300 m long can be connected without exceeding the permissible voltage drop or reflected-wave stress, allowing the motor to be installed remotely in large facilities. For branch-circuit protection, the recommended fuse is a JJS 150 A/600 V Bussmann device that matches the drive’s nominal input current and required interrupting capacity.
A displacement power factor of 0.9/1.0 keeps the line current nearly in phase with the voltage, limiting reactive demand on the electrical distribution network. The drive has a vibration tolerance of 0.7 g, supporting stable operation in skid-mounted panels or on elevated platforms. The electronics withstand ambient moisture levels up to 95% relative humidity without internal condensation when the unit is installed according to the enclosure requirements. After the mains supply is isolated, a discharge interval of 4 minutes must pass so the DC-link capacitors can fully discharge before internal components are touched. This waiting period reduces the risk posed by residual voltage stored inside the converter.
