The 175H4520 variable frequency drive is produced by Danfoss within the VLT 3000 Variable Speed Drives series. It converts fixed-frequency, three-phase mains power into a modulated output so plant controllers can adjust induction motor speed and torque on conveyors, pumps, and ventilation systems. By integrating power electronics with microprocessor control, the unit provides a compact automation component that mounts in standard electrical enclosures. Its regulated output allows connected equipment to operate at speeds suited to changing process demands rather than running continuously at full speed.
In constant-torque operation, the inverter accepts an input current of 52.2 A and supplies 61.0 A to the motor terminals. This operating mode provides 24.3 kVA of apparent power and supports a motor output of 15.0 kW. Electrical efficiency reaches 0.96, so most incoming energy remains available at the drive output. The drive dissipates 935 W of heat, which the IP20 enclosure vents into the surrounding air. A 125 A gG pre-fuse protects the mains side, while the spring terminals accommodate 50 mm² copper conductors without additional busbars. The 51 kg assembly may be switched on no more than twice per minute to limit inrush stress on the DC-link capacitors.
When configured for variable-torque loads, the drive draws 72.3 A and can deliver 88.0 A of phase current. This mode provides 35.1 kVA of electrical output and supports a motor output of up to 22.0 kW. These higher values accommodate the squared-speed power demand of centrifugal equipment without exceeding the drive’s thermal limits. The unit tolerates vibration of up to 0.7 g, helping keep its control boards stable on skid-mounted machinery. The limit of two starts per minute also applies in this operating mode, so pump sequencing must account for the required interval between starts. Variable-torque duty typically produces lower average current than constant-torque operation, which reduces thermal loading during periods of diminished ventilation or flow demand.
