The 175H4421 is an industrial variable speed drive (VSD). It is also known as a frequency converter or AC drive. The drive is developed by Danfoss for motor speed control in industrial applications. The drive’s input power stage connects to three-phase AC mains at 440 to 500 Volts. Its performs a double-conversion operation on the AC input product AC output with controllable parameters (voltage/frequency). This two-stage conversion is important because without it the drive can’t produce a variable-frequency output, which is the primary means of motor speed control. Stage 1 of the process uses a rectifier for AC to DC conversion. Electronic circuits remove the ripple in intermediate DC, before a PWM-controlled inverter converts it to variable AC output. The range of output frequencies for VLT 3022 series units is 0 to 500/0 to 120 Hertz.
The range of output voltage amplitudes is 0 to 100% of the AC line voltage. The rated motor voltages and frequencies are 440/460/500 Volts and 50/60/87/100 Hertz. Electronic protection for motor thermal overloads is available. Even though unlimited switching is allowed on the motor output side, frequent switching can lead to cut-outs. At maximum load the drive’s maximum power loss is 580 Watts with a continuous output load and 880 Watts with a variable load. Depending on the chassis type, the weight is 68 kilograms for IP20 units and 106 kilograms for IP54 units. Constant load output of the 175H4421 drive is 30 Horsepower and the variable load output is 40 Horsepower. The maximum wire size for motor connections is 6 AWG and the maximum cable length is 1000 feet when unshielded cables are used.
