The 175H1738 variable frequency drive is produced by Danfoss within the VLT 3000 Variable Speed Drives series. It converts fixed three-phase mains power into a controllable output that lets automation controllers adjust induction motor speed to match process demand. By regulating frequency and voltage simultaneously, the drive supports accurate flow or torque control in pumps, fans, and conveyors while reducing mechanical wear and energy use.
The input section accepts 3 x 440/460/500 V AC at 50/60 Hz and remains functional across a ±10% line variation, allowing installation on common industrial feeders. Continuous output capability is 2.2 kW, so the inverter can drive medium-sized motors without derating. Electrical losses are limited by an efficiency of 0.96, meaning only 4% of the delivered power is converted into heat. An open-chassis IP00 enclosure simplifies integration into existing cabinets but requires external protection against contact and dust. Power factor correction is aided by the internal DC link, resulting in a displacement power factor of 0.9/1.0 that helps lower the reactive current drawn from the supply.
An included brake dissipates regenerated energy during rapid deceleration, keeping the DC bus voltage within safe limits. During normal operation, the inverter draws a constant-torque input current of 4.8 A and delivers the same current on the output side, corresponding to an apparent power of 4.1 kVA. For intermittent overloads, the drive can supply up to 7.7 A for 60 seconds, allowing short bursts of additional torque without tripping. The drive permits two starts per minute to limit thermal cycling. An integrated thermal relay that complies with DIN 44081 disconnects the gate pulses if the internal temperature rises beyond the allowable limit.
