The VACON0020-3L-0009-4 is an AC variable-frequency drive produced by Danfoss for the VACON 20 Low Voltage Drives series. It converts fixed three-phase mains power into a controllable output that lets industrial controllers match motor speed and torque to process demand in conveyors, pumps, and other general-purpose machinery. The compact format supports panel installations where space is limited and closed-loop motor regulation is required.
This drive delivers a motor shaft power of 4 kW, enabling standard IEC frame motors to run at rated load without oversizing. To sustain that load, it supplies a continuous output of 9 A, while the mains side draws a nominal 11.5 A, so upstream protection and wiring can be sized correctly. An integrated brake chopper is built into the control board; it diverts regenerated energy into an external resistor instead of returning it to the grid, preventing DC-bus overvoltage during rapid stops. Internal fans move 30 m³/h of cooling air through the 100 mm-wide enclosure to keep junction temperatures within limits at full load. Both the mains and motor terminals accept 3 × 2.5 + 2.5 mm² copper conductors, simplifying cable selection across the input and output.
Short-term load peaks are handled by an overload current of 13.5 A, and the manufacturer recommends a protective fuse rated at 20 A to clear faults without nuisance trips. Feed circuits with a prospective short-circuit current of up to 50 kA are tolerated when the recommended fusing and grounding practices are followed. Dynamic braking requires an external resistor with a minimum resistance of 55 ohms, ensuring the chopper stays within its thermal limits. The enclosure measures 254.3 mm high, 109 mm deep, and 100 mm wide, yet weighs only 0.99 kg, allowing several units to be placed on a DIN rail without exceeding structural limits.
