The VACON0020-3L-0008-4-R02 is a low-voltage AC variable frequency drive manufactured by Danfoss for the VACON 20 Low Voltage Drives series. Within an automation cabinet, it serves as the power interface between a three-phase mains supply and an induction motor, adjusting torque and speed to match real-time process demands. By converting fixed-frequency input power into a pulse-width-modulated output, the unit allows equipment such as pumps, conveyors, and small mixers to operate more efficiently while reducing mechanical stress during starting and stopping.
The drive accepts a line voltage of 380 to 480 V AC across three phases, and it remains functional when the incoming voltage varies from -15% to +10% of that nominal range, accommodating typical power distribution fluctuations. At the motor terminals, it supplies a continuous current of 7.6 A, sufficient for most four-pole machines connected at its rated capacity. Speed control is provided by adjusting the fundamental output frequency between 0 and 320 Hz, allowing operation across a broad speed range. Carrier pulses are generated at selectable rates from 1 to 16 kHz, providing flexibility to reduce audible noise or limit heat dissipation. Two analog inputs, one analog output, six digital inputs, two relay outputs, and an RS-485 port provide the local and network interfaces used for start, stop, and setpoint functions.
Upstream protection can be sized according to a nominal input current of 9.6 A, while transient loading up to 11.4 A is tolerated for short periods during acceleration or a process disturbance. The power stage is rated for motors delivering up to 3 kW at the shaft, which aligns with IEC frame sizes in the 100 class. Fine speed adjustment is possible because the controller processes frequency commands with a resolution of 0.01 Hz, supporting precise flow or positioning tasks in smaller machinery without external encoders.
