Product Description:
The VACON0020-3L-0005-4-X is an AC variable-frequency drive engineered by Danfoss for the VACON 20 Low Voltage Drives series. It modulates the voltage and frequency supplied to three-phase induction motors, allowing machine builders to adjust speed, torque, and energy consumption without mechanical throttling. Used on conveyors, mixers, and pump skids, the unit integrates a factory-installed brake chopper that routes regenerative energy from rapid deceleration to a connected brake resistor.
Inside the compact MI2 frame, the inverter delivers a continuous output of 4.3 A while accepting speed references that can be adjusted in increments of 0.01 Hz. It can command motors at frequencies up to 320 Hz, well above the typical base frequency for high-speed processing equipment. The drive supports a shaft output of 1.5 kW, matching small IE2 or IE3 motors used in packaging lines. A three-phase supply feeds the input bridge, and the nominal line current is limited to 5.6 A, which helps determine upstream contactor and cable sizing. Thermal and electronic protection functions monitor the current, heat sink temperature, and DC-link voltage. The enclosure measures 90 mm wide, 195 mm high, and 102 mm deep, allowing side-by-side installation in shallow control enclosures. Its compact proportions leave additional panel space available for protective devices, terminals, and related control equipment.
Short-term loading can rise to 6.5 A during permitted overload periods, and a branch fuse rated at 10 A provides coordinated short-circuit protection. The housing weighs only 0.7 kg, making it easier to position and secure during cabinet installation or retrofit work. Power wiring uses a mains cable with a conductor arrangement of 3 × 1.5 + 1.5 mm². The motor cable uses the same conductor cross-section to maintain consistent power connections between the drive and motor. A rigid aluminum base spreads heat across the mounting surface, while the molded cover provides finger-safe access to the control terminals. Internal protection logic also monitors the brake resistor circuit to prevent excessive thermal loading during repeated deceleration cycles.
