The VACON0020-3L-0004-4-X is a low-voltage AC variable frequency drive engineered by Danfoss within the VACON 20 Low Voltage Drives series. The unit converts fixed mains power into a pulse-width-modulated output that regulates the speed of standard induction motors in automated conveyors, mixers, and fan systems. By adjusting motor frequency and voltage on demand, the drive helps reduce energy consumption, minimize mechanical stress, and maintain accurate process speeds in compact control panels. Its variable output enables connected equipment to operate at the speed required by each process rather than continuously running at full speed.
The inverter is designed for a three-phase supply and draws a nominal current of 4 A, allowing the use of relatively light upstream wiring and protection. Its continuous motor current is 3.3 A, and the controller can deliver up to 1.1 kW of motor output power. The output frequency can be increased from 0 to 320 Hz, supporting slow-speed jogging and high-speed process stages. Each frequency setpoint can be adjusted in 0.01 Hz increments for precise speed control. A line fuse rated at 10 A provides circuit protection. The drive can also supply 5 A for short periods during acceleration, deceleration, or temporary overload conditions.
The integrated brake chopper connects to an external braking resistor to dissipate regenerated energy during rapid deceleration. The external resistor must have a minimum resistance of 118 Ω to keep brake transistor current within acceptable limits. Relay contacts rated at 3 A provide status signals to the control system. The default switching frequency is 4 kHz, balancing audible noise and thermal load during normal operation. An auxiliary output supplies up to 50 mA for compatible sensors and control devices. The analog current input has an impedance of 250 Ω, while the analog voltage input has an impedance of 250 kΩ. Digital inputs have an impedance of 10 kΩ, reducing the load placed on connected PLC outputs and supporting direct field wiring without additional signal buffers.
