The HQ901A6 is a percentage timer produced by Danaher for the Timers and Controllers series. It uses a synchronous motor drive to rotate its internal cam at a constant speed, and the cam operates a snap-action switch for on-and-off sequencing of heaters, feeders, and other cyclic loads in industrial automation. The device mounts behind an operator panel, where a front pointer displays the elapsed portion of each cycle. An electrically isolated pilot light can be wired separately to provide a visual indication of the timer’s operating status without feeding current back into the control circuit.
The control circuit operates from a nominal 120 VAC supply at 60 Hz and draws no more than 4 VA under its maximum burden. The output contacts are rated for 10 A at 120/240 VAC, allowing the timer to switch compatible alternating-current loads directly. For direct-current loads, the contacts are limited to 0.5 A at 125 VDC and 0.25 A at 250 VDC to reduce arc erosion at the silver-alloy contact tips. During the 15-second time range, the cam remains in each switching state for a period proportional to the dial setting. This operation provides repeatable duty-cycle control for equipment that requires regularly timed output pulses.
The switching element can handle motor loads up to 1/3 HP at 125/250 VAC, allowing small pumps or gear motors to be cycled without an auxiliary contactor. Panel installation requires a circular cutout with a diameter of 3.187 inches, while screw terminals numbered 3 and 4 accept the load wiring. A clamp on the top of the timer locks the mechanical calibration, keeping the pointer indication aligned with the snap-action switching mechanism. The percentage dial can be positioned anywhere within its available scale and provides ±1% repeatability. The pointer allows an operator to observe cycle progress from the front of the panel while the isolated pilot circuit provides a separate status indication.
