The HP57A6 is an electromechanical timing relay produced by Danaher within the Timers and Controllers series. The device inserts controlled delays into industrial logic, allowing conveyor sections, heaters, or pumps to energize in a set sequence so that loads start and stop without conflict. Because the relay is self-contained and panel-mountable, it can be installed in legacy control cabinets where PLC channels are limited. It can also function as a single-shot off-delay or on-delay element, depending on the wiring arrangement, reducing the number of components required in small control panels.
The relay operates from 120 VAC at 60 Hz, and its adjustable timing range of 0 to 15 minutes supports broad cycle intervals. Time is selected with a front knob marked in 15-second graduations, while a minimum setting of 30 seconds prevents inadvertent zero-delay programming. The timing mechanism engages through a magnetic clutch that imposes a 10.5 VA burden during motion. After the selected delay elapses, a Form C contact can switch a 10 A resistive load at 120 VAC, supporting solenoids or pilot coils. Pull-in time is 28 ms, and the mechanism resets in 0.5 seconds at the maximum setting, allowing the relay to cycle rapidly in semiautomatic processes.
The drive motor has a 2.45 VA burden, so only modest control power is lost as heat during steady rotation. Initial energization draws a maximum inrush current of 10 A, which should be considered when upstream protective devices are sized. Over multiple cycles, the relay repeats its setpoint within ±4.5 seconds, maintaining consistent batching or dwell times. The acceptable supply-voltage variation is +10% to -15%, accommodating normal fluctuations in industrial power systems.
