The HP56B607 is an electromechanical timer produced by Danaher within the Timers and Controllers series. It fits into control cabinets through a standard front-panel cutout and provides a selectable delay function for coordinating sequential operations in industrial machinery. By energizing or releasing its internal clutch at the programmed moment, the unit drives a cam stack that actuates relay contacts, providing a simple way to stagger motor starts, purge cycles, or heat-soak periods without PLC programming.
The timer operates from a 240 VAC, 60 Hz supply, and its magnetically latched clutch places a burden of only 10.5 VA on that circuit. At a 1 A load, the silver-alloy contacts are rated for 5,000,000 operating cycles, while operation at the full resistive load reduces their service life to 250,000 cycles. Once the timer is de-energized, its output contacts release within 17 ms, helping prevent commands from overlapping, and the mechanism maintains timing accuracy at ambient temperatures up to 60 °C without derating. A front dial sets intervals ranging from fractions of a second to 60 min, and the integral dial lock helps prevent unintended adjustments after the desired interval is selected. The assembly withstands 2.5 g of vibration and provides fifteen numbered terminals for the input, clutch, and output connections. Its barrier-strip arrangement keeps wiring organized when the timer is connected to multiple control devices inside an enclosure.
The timing cycle begins after a pull-in delay of 28 ms and continues until the cam reaches the selected graduation. A new cycle can begin after the mechanism completes its 0.5 s reset. The minimum service temperature is -18 °C, allowing the device to remain in unheated enclosures overnight without the mechanism sticking. Its SPDT output handles a resistive load of 5 A at 240 VAC for motor-control auxiliary circuits. During energization, the coil may draw an inrush current of 10 A, but it quickly settles to its steady demand to limit heat buildup.
