The HP56A607 is an electromechanical time-delay relay built by Danaher for the Timers and Controllers series. Designed for panel or chassis installation, the unit sequences machinery or process events within a preset interval by combining a synchronous motor, friction clutch, and switch contacts. In industrial automation, it introduces controlled pauses, cycles, or safety interlocks without requiring PLC logic.
The relay connects to a nominal 120 VAC line at 60 Hz and tolerates a voltage variation of +10% to -15% without loss of function. Its synchronous motor draws 2.45 VA, while the clutch requires 10.5 VA; these values assist with sizing a transformer shared by several timers. Form-C contacts carry a 10 A resistive load at 120 VAC, so modest heaters or pilot valves can be energized directly. Timing adjustment spans 0 to 60 minutes. The scale is graduated in 1-minute divisions, and the knob cannot be set below the 2-minute point. After power is applied, the armature completes pull-in within 28 ms, establishing a precise start for the measured interval. Internally, a hardened gear pack advances the indicator disc at a constant speed, so the actual elapsed time follows the panel setting.
When the preset period ends, the unit resets in 0.5 seconds. If control power is interrupted, the contacts release after only 17 ms, limiting unintended dwell. Cycle-to-cycle variation is held within ±18 seconds over the entire adjustment range. The relay can operate at ambient temperatures from 0 °F to 140 °F, allowing use in a broad range of industrial settings. Its rugged mechanical gearing supports stable timing performance throughout this temperature range. The mechanism withstands vibration of 2.5 G from 10 to 900 Hz, so it remains functional on machinery frames or mobile skids.
