The HP51A6 time-delay relay is produced by Danaher for the Timers and Controllers series. In automated conveyor lines, packaging machines, or heater stages, it inserts a short, adjustable pause before its output contacts transfer, allowing upstream sensors or motors to settle before the next action begins. The electromechanical design combines a synchronous timing motor, friction clutch, and single-pole, double-throw contacts, allowing sequence control without additional logic hardware. This arrangement makes the relay suitable for applications that require a repeatable delay before electrical loads are activated or deactivated.
The relay is powered by a nominal 120 VAC supply and is synchronized with a 60 Hz line waveform, keeping the motor-driven dial accurate during normal temperature or load changes. Users can select any delay up to 60 seconds; the front dial is graduated in 1-second increments, while the mechanism will not engage below a minimum delay of 2 seconds. During timing, the clutch draws 10.5 VA, and the separate motor circuit imposes a 2.45 VA burden, which should be considered when sizing control-power transformers. The timer withstands a momentary startup inrush of 10 A. It drops out 17 ms after power is removed and pulls in 28 ms after energization, providing predictable reset behavior between operating cycles.

The round housing installs through a panel cutout with a diameter of 3.187 inches. Field wiring connects to a block with 15 screw terminals, allowing the relay to be installed in densely arranged control enclosures. A reset time of 0.5 seconds minimizes the interval between successive delays. The allowable line-voltage deviation is +10% to -15%, helping protect the coil from common utility fluctuations while maintaining reliable timing and contact operation.
