In automated equipment, it generates a repeatable delay between an electrical signal and a mechanical output, allowing conveyors, heaters, or sequencing relays to operate in a set temporal order. The unit engages an internal clutch-driven cam to open or close contacts after the selected interval, so machine cycles can be synchronized without software logic or high-speed electronics.
The timing window extends from a minimum of 1 second to a maximum of 30 seconds, allowing short indexing pauses or longer dwell periods with the same device. Each rotation of the dial is divided into 1/2-second graduations, providing clear visual feedback while fine adjustments are made with a vernier pointer. Once set, the mechanism repeats successive cycles within ±0.15 second, helping parallel stations remain aligned over long production runs.
