The DZ100A3 is a pulse counter produced by Danaher within the Timers and Controllers series. It monitors electrical contact closures, adds each pulse toward a preset limit, and then actuates an onboard relay so downstream machinery can sequence, index, or batch materials in repetitive industrial processes. By combining a compact 1/8 DIN housing with an AC/DC supply input, the unit fits standard panel cutouts and receives power from most control cabinets without additional converters.
The counter can register input transitions at up to 600 pulses/min, allowing it to follow moderate-speed proximity switches or photoelectric sensors without losing counts. A front-panel thumbwheel lets the operator set a maximum of 99 counts. Once the tally reaches this value, an internal isolated DPDT relay changes state to energize or de-energize external loads while keeping the control and power circuits electrically separated. The logic section is powered from a nominal 120 V line, and it draws only 1.9 VA at maximum load, so multiple counters can share a single low-capacity transformer. Count integrity is preserved during brief power interruptions because the circuit retains residual energy. Response to the initial power-up is completed within 30 ms, minimizing startup uncertainty.
The counter provides a 16 ms power-interruption hold, ensuring that outputs remain latched through brief line-voltage dips that are common on factory feeders. After a process cycle, the device clears its register in 50 ms, so it is ready for the next batch with minimal delay. Surge suppression withstands transients up to 600 V peak, protecting the molded NORYL case and internal electronics against inductive kickback. Mechanical endurance is supported by a vibration tolerance of 2.5 G, allowing installation on equipment frames that experience moderate dynamic loading. The input signal must remain on for at least 40 ms and off for at least 60 ms to maintain reliable pulse recognition. These timing requirements help prevent switch bounce or incomplete sensor transitions from producing inaccurate counts during repetitive machine cycles.
