The C342-3462 is a panel-mount pulse counter produced by Danaher within the Timers and Controllers series. Installed on machine dashboards through a 22 × 45 mm cutout, it translates incoming sensor pulses into a direct readout of rotational speed. This immediate RPM feedback supports closed-loop control in conveyors, mixers, and spindle-monitoring applications.
The housing measures 24 × 48 × 32 mm, so it fits densely packed control cabinets while still allowing finger access to the bezel. A front seal rated to IP65 shields the keypad and window from coolant splashes and dust ingress. The counting circuit accepts repetitive edges up to 7.5 kHz, providing enough capacity for high-speed proximity switches on small-diameter shafts. Because the input stage is selectable for PNP/NPN sensors, wiring can follow either sourcing or sinking conventions without additional converters. Visual feedback is provided by a backlit LCD with a 7.0 mm character height that remains legible at arm’s length. Logic thresholds are greater than 5 VDC for a high signal and less than 0.7 VDC for a low signal, allowing direct connection to most 24 V encoder channels. The instrument is powered by an external DC supply, so the display does not load the signal line.
The reading range extends from 10 RPM to 450,000 RPM, enabling one unit to supervise both slow indexing tables and fast spindles when the pulse train is configured for one pulse per revolution. Internal scaling supports an 8-digit display, which prevents rollover during extended production cycles. Overrange protection blocks counts that exceed the 30 Hz frequency limit specified for mechanical contacts. The input clamp tolerates up to 30 VDC, helping prevent damage from electrical noise in plant power systems. A one-pulse-per-revolution setting simplifies calibration because the displayed speed corresponds directly to the measured rotational frequency. This broad operating range allows the counter to monitor equipment with substantially different shaft speeds without requiring an external signal converter.
