The BRE5A6 is an industrial timer manufactured by Danaher for the Timers and Controllers series. It functions as a single-shot interval control that inserts an accurate delay between an initiating contact and the downstream load, allowing conveyors, heaters, or inspection stations to operate within fixed time windows. The unit is enclosed in a Lexan case that resists oil and light chemical splashes. Its surface-mounted layout allows direct attachment to a back panel without separate brackets, saving space inside control cabinets.
The relay operates from a 120 VAC supply and tolerates line voltage variations from 15% below nominal to 10% above nominal without losing accuracy. When energized, it can switch up to 10 A of resistive or inductive load through its internal contacts, making it suitable for many solenoids, contactors, and small heaters. The timing motor tracks a standard 50/60 Hz line, allowing straightforward synchronization with plant power. The circuit draws only 1.5 W, which limits heat generation inside the control panel. The front dial has a 60-second range, allowing any delay within that interval to be selected. Nine numbered terminal points simplify wiring, while 16 AWG conductors fit securely beneath the clamp screws. These connections are isolated from the Lexan housing, and the surface-mounted base keeps live parts away from grounded metal.
The timing cycle begins after an activation period of 150 ms. Once the preset delay expires, the contacts reset in 1 ms, supporting rapid machine indexing. Dial calibration remains within 3% of full scale, while the internal cam mechanism repeats settings within ±0.25% of full scale for consistent batch processing. A minimum setting equal to 2% of full scale prevents extremely short pulses that may be difficult to control. The motor section has a 0.25 HP rating, providing sufficient torque for operation of the internal timing mechanism.
