Product Description:

The SS52, member of the Slo-Syn Synchronous Motors family by Danaher, includes voltage range of 20 to 100 volts. This commercial unit suits applications needing stable rectification across varied DC input levels. As a surface mount barrier rectifier, it offers low forward voltage drops to ensure high-speed switching in compact assemblies. Its maximum repetitive peak reverse voltage is 20 volts, protecting the system from unintended current reversal during normal circuit oscillations. The 14-volt maximum RMS voltage further supports lower thermal buildup.

Carrying a maximum DC blocking voltage of 20 volts, the module prevents reverse current flow which preserves load-side circuitry. A continuous forward rectified current rating of 5.0 amperes enables robust current conduction during extended active states. The device withstands a peak forward surge current of 100 amperes as per the Suntan datasheet while Taitron lists it at 150 amperes. The 0.55-volt forward voltage drop at 1.0A minimizes energy loss during conduction and hence reduces efficiency drag under load. A maximum reverse leakage current of just 0.5 mA at 25°C limits parasitic drain that preserve voltage levels across passive loads.

The thermal resistance from junction-to-ambient is 55 °C/W per Suntan and 40 °C/W per Taitron, making passive cooling viable for most applications. The junction-to-lead resistance is 12 °C/W and 10 °C/W respectively which enables better heat conduction through solder paths during operation. Operating junction temperature spans from -55°C to +150°C and the storage temperature also ranges from -55 °C to +150 °C, thus protecting the motor from thermal damage during shipment or standby. The synchronous SS52 motor supports a junction capacitance of 150 pF, enabling faster signal handling and rectification speeds. Reverse recovery time is just 5 ns with a benefit of high-frequency power conversion in compact systems.

Frequently Asked Questions about SS52:

Q: Can the SS52 handle temporary current surges during startup?

A: Yes, the SS52 tolerates up to 100A or 150A peak forward surge depending on the datasheet, which safeguards it from inrush current failures.

Q: What reverse leakage can I expect from the SS52 motor at room temperature?

A: The SS52 has a maximum reverse current of 0.5 mA at 25°C, which means minimal power loss in reverse-biased states.

Q: Is the SS52 safe to use in environments with fluctuating temperatures?

A: Yes, the SS52 operates between -55 °C to +150 °C, allowing it to work reliably in diverse climate or thermal zones.

Q: How much voltage can the SS52 block in reverse polarity conditions?

A: This industrial module blocks up to 20V of DC and further prevents damage from reverse voltage in critical circuits.

Q: Can the SS52 sustain constant load without overheating?

A: With a forward current rating of 5.0A and low thermal resistance, it handles continuous current without thermal failure.

Internal Product Review

  • ‘‘The SS52 is a Slo-Syn motor and offers a 100A surge current handling and a 14V RMS voltage capacity, which makes it ideal for start-up loads in dynamic switching power circuits.
