Product Description:

The SS241-1018 is a synchronous stepping motor manufactured by Danaher. It is sufficiently stable to be used for motion control. The motor can be powered by a single-phase 120-volt supply operating at 50 or 60 Hz. It can handle synchronous shaft speeds of up to 72 RPM at 50 Hz and 60 RPM at 50 Hz.

The SS241-1018 synchronous stepping motor generates 0.013 horsepower and requires 0.4 A of electricity. It states that the connection design is Type B. It has a running force of at least 240 oz-in when it is used in single-phase mode. When one winding is turned on, the holding torque is 350 oz-in. For a 1-phase rigidly connected system, the maximum weight that can be pulled is 2.5 lb-in at 60 Hz and 1.5 lb-in at 50 Hz. The capacity goes up to 18 lb-in at 60 Hz and 3.5 lb-in at 50 Hz when an adjustable coupling is used. For 120 V circuits, the motor needs a capacitor that is rated at 10 µF 250 VAC at 50 Hz and 7.5 µF 250 VAC at 60 Hz. For 240 V, the capacitor should have a value of 1.0 µF at 60 Hz and 1.5 µF at 50 Hz, both at 660 VAC. According to the electrical winding specifications, each winding should have a current of 0.5 A and an output voltage of 85 V DC.

The SS241-1018 synchronous stepping motor has a frame size of NEMA 34D and weighs 4.1 lb. The motor usually has a residual force of 15 oz-in, which helps keep the position stable when the drive signal is not present. A maximum horizontal force of 25 pounds and a maximum axial force of 50 pounds can be put on it. It is reliable to use the SS241-1018 in situations where exact and consistent motion control is needed.

Frequently Asked Questions about SS241-1018:

Q: Why does SS241-1018 motor require a capacitor?

A: The capacitor enables proper phase shift in the single-phase supply. It ensures smooth motor startup and consistent torque during operation.

Q: Does SS241-1018 offer holding torque when idle?

A: Yes, the motor provides 350 oz-in holding torque with one winding energized. This helps maintain shaft position without motion.

Q: Why does SS241-1018 use two capacitor values?

A: Different capacitor values support 50 Hz and 60 Hz operations. Each frequency requires specific capacitance to match motor impedance.

Q: How does SS241-1018 handle load inertia change?

A: The motor allows different maximum load inertia based on mounting type. It supports higher inertia when using a flexible coupling.

Q: Do SS241-1018 windings operate on DC voltage?

A: Yes, each winding operates at 85 V DC. This is required for torque generation and precise step movement.

Internal Product Review
