Internal Product Review
The XTL-FA-01 is a Copley Controls accessory filter for drive systems, rated for 20 Adc and 373 Vdc. Common-mode inductance of 220 uH and differential inductance of 82 uH/phase support cleaner power handling and stable system performance. A well-engineered addition for demanding motion applications, especially with 40 Adc peak capability.

Product Description:
The XTL-FA-01 is a passive line filter produced by Copley Controls for the Copley Controls Accessories series. It installs on the DC bus of servo drives, where it blocks common-mode and differential switching noise before those signals reach the power source. By attenuating fast signal edges, the device protects upstream power supplies and prevents interference with nearby control instrumentation in industrial automation systems.
At the input terminals, a common-mode inductance of 220 µH works with a differential inductance of 82 µH per phase to increase impedance to high-frequency components while leaving the DC level unaffected. The header uses a 5.0 mm pitch and provides five positions for supply, return, and protective earth conductors. These pins support a continuous current of 20 A DC at up to 373 V DC, matching the front-end capability of compatible Copley servo amplifiers. Energy passes through copper tracks with a resistance of only 27 mΩ per leg, limiting I²R losses even at full load. The four-position output block passes the same current and voltage to the drive, while a typical rise and fall time of 500 ns keeps switching transitions within the filter’s operating range. All connected wiring must have a 600 V insulation rating to meet the board clearance requirements.
During transient events, the filter tolerates a surge current of 40 A DC for 1 second, allowing it to withstand motor inrush or regenerative surges without saturating the core. Cable sets should use 12 AWG conductors to accommodate the overload while fitting the pluggable clamps. The assembly weighs 1 lb 11 oz, allowing DIN-rail or panel mounting beside compact amplifiers. The input connector separates the logic return from the chassis ground, directing incoming noise currents through the laminated core rather than the enclosure metal. This routing helps preserve electromagnetic compatibility during rapid duty-cycle changes without altering the normal DC power path.
