Product Description:
The BPL-090-30 is a compact digital servo drive produced by Copley Controls for the Accelnet CANopen Modules series. It interfaces with fieldbus motion controllers to regulate brushless or brushed motors in automated machinery, translating high-level velocity or position commands into precise phase currents. By combining a DC power stage with feedback processing and optically isolated I/O, the module provides a self-contained actuator interface for multi-axis industrial automation. Its compact format allows several coordinated axes to be installed within a control cabinet while retaining individual motor regulation.
The power section delivers a continuous output of 15 A DC and can reach 30 A DC for up to 1 second during acceleration. Its input voltage tolerance extends to 90 V DC, allowing operation with common bus supplies in the 60 V to 90 V range. Closed-loop torque is updated at 16 kHz, while the velocity and position controller refreshes at 4 kHz to maintain precise speed regulation. The drive supports motor loads with a minimum inductance of 200 µH. Command channels include a 5.05 kΩ analog input for torque or velocity references and differential step-and-direction inputs for digital motion commands. Optically coupled outputs can sink 300 mA DC for controlling a brake or relay. Without a heat sink, the housing measures 5.08 inches high, 3.41 inches wide, and 1.99 inches deep, supporting installation in densely arranged cabinets.
Feedback support includes incremental encoder emulation at up to 4096 lines per revolution, providing position information to an external controller. The receiver can track incoming encoder signals at 5 MHz for high-speed positioning applications. When the step interface is used, its digital filter accepts pulse streams at up to 2 MHz, accommodating rapid command updates from compatible motion controllers. Internal analog-to-digital scaling retains command granularity through the 12-bit converter. The coordinated current, velocity, and position control structure allows phase current to respond promptly to changing trajectory commands without requiring a separate external control stage.
