The BPL-090-06 is a compact digital servo drive produced by Copley Controls within the Accelnet CANopen Modules series. Designed for panel mounting in distributed motion networks, the unit regulates motor torque, velocity, and position in industrial automation equipment. It operates from a direct-current bus and interfaces with a CANopen master so that multiple axes can be coordinated without additional wiring overhead. The module also supports safety-related functions and brake control required in conveyor, packaging, and semiconductor equipment.
The power stage on the drive is connected to a bus rated at 90 VDC, and the output bridge can deliver a continuous phase current of 3 ADC. When rapid acceleration is needed, the amplifier supplies 6 ADC for up to 1 second before returning to steady-state operation. Reliable operation with low-inductance motors is supported by a minimum load inductance of 200 µH, while a separate brake output provides 1 ADC to release spring-set actuators. The current loop is updated at 16 kHz, allowing tight torque regulation during changing load conditions. Pulse command operation is supported up to a step-rate limit of 2 MHz, and the drive samples quadrature encoder signals at 5 MHz to maintain commutation accuracy at high motor speeds.
Commands are accepted through a ±10 V analog input with an impedance of 5.05 kΩ and a resolution of 12 bits, permitting fine torque or speed references when the fieldbus is not used. The motion controller can poll up to 127 CAN nodes, allowing complex machines to operate through a single communication network. Position moves that use trapezoidal or S-curve profiles benefit from an internal velocity loop that closes at 4 kHz. For functional safety, the safe torque off circuit removes gate drive within 2 ms when activated. An auxiliary solid-state relay output rated at 300 mADC is available for external contactors, and current limiting on the brake output protects the holding mechanism from excessive electrical load.
