The BML-090-14 is a plug-in servo drive module manufactured by Copley Controls for the Accelnet CanOPEN Modules series. It integrates power electronics, signal conditioning, and CANopen networking so that a host controller can command torque, velocity, or position loops without separate amplifiers. In an automation cell, the module supplies motor phase current, reads feedback devices, and handles real-time I/O, enabling tightly synchronized motion on compact multi-axis equipment. Because control, communication, and power conversion are combined in one unit, the design suits machines that need dense axis packaging without large external hardware.
An analog input impedance of 5 kΩ protects upstream sensors from loading, while its 12-bit converter yields 12-bit resolution for setpoint or trim signals. The drive delivers a continuous motor phase current of 7 Adc and can surge to 14 Adc for up to 1 s to overcome friction or accelerate loads. Current is updated by a loop running at 16 kHz, while the velocity and position loops execute at 4 kHz. For high-bandwidth step-and-direction systems, the digital position input accepts pulses up to 2 MHz. These loop rates support fast inner-current regulation and responsive outer-loop correction during changes in load or commanded speed. Eleven discrete inputs, four sourcing outputs, and one analog channel provide onboard machine interfacing without external PLC cards.
A brake driver supplies 1 Adc to help hold vertical axes during power loss. Four transistor outputs are supplemented by a solid-state relay capable of 300 mA for contactor or lamp duties. The encoder port supplies 500 mA at +5 Vdc for incremental or absolute sensors, and the design supports a minimum motor winding inductance of 200 µH line-to-line to maintain loop stability. This arrangement supports low-inductance brushless servomotors in space-limited assemblies while allowing direct connection of common feedback devices.
