The APM-090-06 is a compact drive amplifier module produced by Copley Controls within the Accelnet CANopen Modules series. Designed for integration into distributed motion systems, it accepts command data over a CANopen network and delivers regulated power to a single brushed or brushless DC servo axis. In industrial automation, the module translates high-level velocity or position commands into precise phase-current waveforms that move the motor as instructed. Its compact module format supports installation near other control components in distributed machine architectures.
This unit can supply a continuous output of 3 A DC, providing a steady torque source during normal operation. Short bursts of up to 6 A DC for one second accommodate acceleration and shock loads. Current regulation is handled by a closed loop with a bandwidth of 2.5 kHz and an update rate of 16 kHz, allowing the amplifier to correct current errors and maintain commanded motor torque. Network communication runs at up to 1 Mbit/s on the CAN bus, supporting the transfer of detailed motion commands without interrupting the control cycle. A velocity and position service loop operates at 4 kHz, while the module accepts encoder feedback rates of up to 8 Mcount/s and step inputs of up to 4 MHz. These input capabilities allow the drive to follow fast trajectories without losing command or feedback counts.
An analog reference channel is digitized at 12-bit resolution for applications that combine analog speed trim with fieldbus control. The module has eleven optically isolated inputs for limit switches, home sensors, and user commands, while six outputs provide drive-ready, fault, or process-controlled signals. Pulse-width modulation uses a carrier ripple frequency of 32 kHz, and a minimum pulse width of 220 ns helps protect low-inductance motors against saturation. The minimum supported load inductance is 200 µH. Thermal protection operates automatically, and the drive disables power when its internal temperature reaches 70 °C. This shutdown response protects the module if cabinet airflow is lost or surrounding temperatures become excessive.
